I Currently reside in Massachusetts and was wondering if there is any way/any idea on how to have medical cannabis as my medication.

If it is possible you have to ask your doctor or in the hospital, but that is real restrictive, so it might be that you won’t get any approval at all..

Depression is the fourth most important cause of disability worldwide and is expected to become the second most important by 2020. Statistics suggest that as many as 1 in 3 of us might experience depressive symptoms during our lifetime and women are twice as likely to be affected as men. Depression is a major problem and treating depression a major drain on medical resources.

Now, new studies in the southwest of England are looking into different approaches to the treatment of depression approaches that may have a significant impact on this debilitating illness.

Bringing together expertise in Psychiatry, Exercise Psychology, Health Economics and Primary Care, a collaboration of the University of Bristol, the University of Exeter and the Peninsula Medical School will conduct one of the largest studies in the world, into the use of exercise as a treatment for depression. Meanwhile, a parallel study at the University of Bristol will examine patient DNA believing that this may hold the key to more accurate drug prescription — matching patients to their medication according to their own genetic make-up.

In the UK alone, depression costs the Health Service some £80 million a year in antidepressant prescriptions. The benefits of exercise and more accurately targeted medication could make a considerable contribution to the treatment of depression throughout the world.

Question by xsister_awakex: How to get over depression without use of prescription drugs?
I had a baby 8 months ago and was monitored because of post-partum depression. While that has gone away, I seem to have become severly depressed from things other than the baby. I lack any motivation to do things, even eating is a struggle. I do eat but usually not until I have been starving for hours. I just don’t want to get up until it’s so bad that I’m in pain. I at one point had to get treatment for panic disorder. It was gone for awhile but is back again. My main problem is not being able to become motivated enough to do daily activities. I know exercise will help me but I can’t do that when I have no energy.

I hate prescriptions. Please don’t suggest any of those to me. Any herbal or natural remedies would be great though. Thanks.

Question by yousuck4: How much would it be to get diagnosed with add/adhd, depression, bipolar, etc?
I don’t have insurance, so I need to know about the ranges of the prices for this to be done. I need to know what’s exactly wrong with me, I have all the symptoms of add/adhd but of bipolar too, I need to be sure though, anyone’s help and advice would be great! Thanks….I live in L.A county, I don’t know if that even matters but yeah.

I don’t know, not very much though. The better the diagnosis the more it will cost (going to your GP saying you think you have ADHD VS going to your GP, getting referred to an ADHD specialist and having long and thorough testing).

Think about it this way, how much would it cost to not be diagnosed with these conditions: ADHD, a lifetime of missed opportunities and people ignoring your assets and not understanding your deficits. Bipolar, Whilst manic you could propose to a random stranger, give away your car, buy a round the world first class airline ticket departing in 4 minutes or perhaps all 3. Bipolar depressive/ Depression, well that could cost you your life, these disorders have the potential to get really bad.

Question by Jo: What causes depression? Does it afflict even happy healthy individuals from time to time and if so, why?
I don’t mean clinical depression; serious depression where you entertain suicidal thoughts or depression that follows life altering events. I am talking about “low level” depression where you feel somewhat blue…but for no apparent reason…things are going well in your life and your relationships are positive…yet you feel a void…a sort of depression. Are there causes for this? Do all people, in varying degrees, go through these depressions?

Question by Ali G: Is the willingness the most important factor to recover from depression?
According me the willingness is more important than any antidepressant in depression treatment. Is it right?

Best answer:

Answer by Danie
Well, sort of. Part of depression is having absolutely no willingness to do anything..but, if you want to feel better, than it can help. I don’t believe in medications as a long term treatment, but they work well to get people through really low times. They can bring someone up enough to care about themselves enough to want to get better, and once they feel confident, often medications are no longer needed.
